As long as you know that a monitor uses the same panel as yours, you can use a CCSS file created from that one instead. This means that you can calculate a correction matrix that transforms the values measured by the colorimeter to what a spectro would measure, without having a spectro yourself.ĬCSS files are specific to a certain panel + backlight, since different ones will have different spectral power distributions. By combining those curves with the CCSS data and the CIE 1931 observer (the model of human color perception usually used for display calibration), you can simulate taking a reading of the display with the colorimeter and you can calculate the "ground truth" values of what coordinates the colors should be from the spectral power distribution.
